Dr. Darrell A Lovell

I am an assistant professor of political science and the MPA program director at West Texas A&M University. My research centers on the intersection of policy and administration and education, specifically higher education. My most recent publications examine policy diffusion of turnaround policy and faculty as street-level bureaucrats. Currently, I have several manuscripts under review on topics centering on faculty as street-level bureaucrats and advancing my policy diffusion work in education in the areas of name, image, and likeness (NIL) and test-optional policies. I recently co-authored a book on NIL for Routledge Publishing and have signed a book contract to examine DEI, divisive concepts (ex. CRT), and tenure laws with the publisher that is due out in the spring of 2026.

In 2023, I was awarded the Outstanding Intellectual Contribution award for the Terry B. Rogers College of Education and Social Sciences for my research in 2022-2023.

My curriculum is designed to use active learning and simulation and gaming to enhance students' ability to investigate, analyze, and apply policy and administrative theory to the relationship between a government and its citizens.

I am a proud alumni of West Chester University (DPA, 2018), the University of Colorado Denver (MPA, 2011), and the University of Central Missouri (BS, 2003). I grew up in Houston, TX and am a first-generation scholar - the first in my family to earn a graduate degree and am a proud graduate of the Aldine Independent School District and Nimitz High School - Go Coogs!
